Forgive me :)

So on Easter Sunday I woke up with a terrible headache and stomach ache at 4:00 o'clock in the morning - not a convenient time - I know! I couldn't find a comfortable position to sleep in and so consequently  didn't get back to sleep.  I went to church still felling not great. I didn't eat any lunch and trust me this is not like me! I threw up on Easter Sunday evening and was confined to my room for the whole of Monday and Tuesday so that's why I haven't written and I feel really bad and I hope you can forgive me...We can do Easter Sunday next year hey! After all, it does come round every year!

Yesterday I went back to school :( and I found out I that my English CA (Controlled Assessment for GCSE) is tomorrow and I was slightly panicky! It was nice to catch up with all my friends again :) Two teachers suddenly decided to spring end-of-topic-tests on us and that was about it. Oh yes - how could I forget?!

They decided to 'jazz' up the dinging hall and lunch system so that it would work better and makes the food look nicer which is supposed to make us think it tastes nicer but frankly, it's just the same school food as ever! We now have those rope-barrier things like you have at VIP events and it looks really posh and weird!

Today I went to school, found out my friend's friend had asked her out - congrats Molly and Philip (what do you think - molip, milip pholly or polly?)! Did chapel, got hyper, had lunch did THREE HOURS of sport - I mean come on! Are they trying to kill us? And went home on the bus.

So a pretty boring few days I'm afraid.

Food: breakfast - sesame seeded bagel with nutella! lunch - past, cheese, tuna and CUSTARD!! dinner - a really very spicy chilly and easter egg - chocolate = HYPER!!!!

Weather: Cloudy but hot - is that even possible?

Today - yay I've finally caught up with myself! Easter Saturday

So today I woke up at 4 in the morning and I felt really ill :( I had some water and tried to go back to sleep figuring that that was all I could do at that point without waking the whole house. When I woke up at 8 again, I felt slightly better but not much donc je fais une grasse matinee which literally translates as so I did a fat morning but in English means so I had a lie-in. Then my brother stands outside my door and tries to get me out by playing his harmonica...I'm telling you that was not fun!

Then I volunteered to go out into town because I thought that a walk might make me feel  better and I bought a newspaper and a loaf of bread because that's what my parents needed. Then we had lunch.

This afternoon was more fun - we went up to the Cathedral (me and ma bro) for youth group or BOB as its known. Now this was his first session so he was trying to impress and constantly talked, talking over everyone and frankly winding everyone up! We had dinner and a general chit chat and it was so nice to just be with other people my age! I really enjoyed it...

Thats basically it for today-an astonishingly boring day! Oh and yes I'm feeling slightly better - thanks for asking.

Food: Breakfast- nothing :( Lunch- SALAD double :( Dinner - pasta bake, garlic bread, lettuce and holy biscuits....

Weather: FREEZING COLD :(

Good Friday (yesterday)

Good Friday is the day when Jesus actually died. The scripture says that Jesus died at 3 O'clock and darkness covered all the earth. It also says that when Jesus died he said: Father, into your hands I commend my spirit. Here is the passion (death of Jesus) according to Matthew. It carries on the story of Jesus from where we left off earlier:

Judas Hangs Himself

27 Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed. So they bound him, led him away and handed him over to Pilate the governor.

When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.”

“What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”

So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.

The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.”So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners. That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day. Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on him by the people of Israel,10 and they used them to buy the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.”[a]

Jesus Before Pilate

11 Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”

“You have said so,” Jesus replied.

12 When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer. 13 Then Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?” 14 But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.

15 Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd. 16 At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus[b] Barabbas.17 So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?” 18 For he knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him.

19 While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message: “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.”

20 But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.

21 “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor.

“Barabbas,” they answered.

22 “What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” Pilate asked.

They all answered, “Crucify him!”

23 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.

But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”

24 When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”

25 All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!”

26 Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.

The Soldiers Mock Jesus

27 Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. 30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. 31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.

The Crucifixion of Jesus

32 As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross.33 They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). 34 There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it.35 When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. 36 And sitting down, they kept watch over him there. 37 Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews.

38 Two rebels were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. 39 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads 40 and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself!Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!” 41 In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. 42 “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

The Death of Jesus

45 From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,[c] lema sabachthani?” (which means“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[d]

47 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”

48 Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. 49 The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”

50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and[e] went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

54 When the centurion and those with him who were guardingJesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”

55 Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs.56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph,[f] and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.

The Burial of Jesus

57 As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. 58 Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. 59 Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.

The Guard at the Tomb

62 The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. 63 “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ 64 So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”

65 “Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.

Good Friday is the start of the Triduum (three days - Good Friday, Easter Saturday ad Easter Sunday)  and is the saddest day in the Christian year. It was the first time I'd been to the service and it really affected me which I was surprised at. I thought that we hear the story of Jesus' death so many times at school etc that I would be used to it but it came to the bit where you kneel before the cross and pray and I really felt like crying :(

I finished the day off by going to see a really beautiful and moving rendition of Mozart's requiem with accompaniment by the chamber orchestra of the Yehudi Menuin School and my best buddy Yvette:) It really topped off the contemplative day and began the period of waiting we are currently in!

Maundy Thursday

So I haven't written for a few days - I am so sorry! However, I do have an excuse - my stupid parents confiscated my iPad....but anyways I didnt get to write about Maundy Thursday so here we go.

So yesterday, whether you were conscious of it or not, was Maundy Thursday! Maundy Thursday is the Thursday in Holy Week of Lent. This date changes each year because Easter changes each year, but it is pretty much always in March or April. This year it was yesterday, April 17th.

Maudy Thursday is the day before Good Friday when Crist was crucified. It commemorates the Last Supper - the Passover meal that Jesus celebrated with his disciples and predicted at one of them would deny him three time and one  would betray him. He then goes to the garden of Gethsemane where he attempts to pray but is arrested by Romans who were tipped off by Judas Iscariot, the one who betrays him.

Peter is the one who denies Jesus. Here is the scripture:

One of the twelve disciples - the one named Judas Iscariot - went to the Chief priests and asked, "what will you give me if I betray Jesus to you?" They counted out 30 silver cons and gave them to hum. From then on Judas was looking for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them. On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus and asked him, "Where do you want us to get the Passavoer meal ready for you?" "Go to a certain man in the city" he said to them "and tell him "The Teacher says, My hour has come, my disciples and I will celebrate the Passover at your house."" The disciples did as Jesus had said and prepared the Passover meal. When it was evening, Jesus and the twelve disciples sat down to eat. During the meal Jesus said, "I tell you, one of you will betray me." the disciples were very upset and began to ask him, one after the other, "Surely, Lord, you don't mean me?" Jesus answered, "One who dips his bread in the dish with me will betray me. The Son of Man will die as the scriptures say he will, but how terrible for that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would have been better for that man if he had never been born!" Judas, the traitor, spoke up, "Surely, Teacher, you don't mean me?" Jesus answered, "So you say."

While they were eathing, Jesus took a piece of bread, gave a prayer of thanks, broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”

The Plot Against Jesus

26 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, “As you know, the Passover is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. “But not during the festival,” they said, “or there may be a riot among the people.”

Jesus Anointed at Bethany

While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.

27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[b] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

31 Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written:

“‘I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’[c]

32 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”

33 Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”

34 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”

35 But Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same.

Gethsemane

36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping.“Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”

43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.

45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”

Jesus Arrested

47 While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.” 49 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him.

50 Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.”[d]

Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. 51 With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.

52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?”

55 In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. 56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.

Jesus Before the Sanhedrin

57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. 58 But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome.

59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward.

Finally two came forward 61 and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”

62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 63 But Jesus remained silent.

The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”

64 “You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”[e]

65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 66 What do you think?”

“He is worthy of death,” they answered.

67 Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists.Others slapped him 68 and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”

Peter Disowns Jesus

69 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. “You also were with Jesus of Galilee,” she said.

70 But he denied it before them all. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said.

71 Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.”

72 He denied it again, with an oath: “I don’t know the man!”

73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.”

74 Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!”

Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Ok so I got bored of typing it. On Maundy Thursday, churches also perform a century-old ritual of the washig of the feet to remember Jesus washing the disciples feet - an act of humility and servitude.

At the end of the service everybody leaves in silence and the church strips all the altars and everything so that it is bare, ready for Good Friday when we mourn the actual death of Jesus.

The Cheapside Hoard

So I'm really interested in history and when my Granny asked if I would like to go and see this exhibition of 16th and 17th Century jewellery with her, I jumped at the chance! And today was the day we booked for...

The day started off pretty normal for a trip out, I got up, washed, changed and gobbled down some breakfast in the typical teenager fashion of I really can't be asked to get out a plate so I'll just butter my bread on the countertop (and then get shouted at by my parents for getting crumbs everywhere - parents hey!). Then I left the house and walked about 15 minutes to the station. I planned to get on the 10:03 and meet my Granny on the train because she gets on a few stops ahead of me (that's where she lives).

However, when I got to the station, I noticed that the train had been cancelled - oh no! Duh duh duh....so I took out my phone to text my Granny but she had already texted me saying 'train not working. driving to your house' actually, that's wrong because she doesn't know how to put full stops or any kind of punctuation into a text - trust me it was hard enough covering how to switch the damn thing on and off! So I walked back home. Then my Granny arrived and we walked to the station - so I'd done a good 45 minutes of walking before I'd even got into London!

We got on the 10:33 and then the tube to Tottenham Court Road (northern line, black) and then changed onto the central line (red) to St Paul's - the exhibition was at the Museum of London). I have to say, I was shocked to see the state of TCR station - broken tiles, horrifically dirty and claustrophobic...:(

We stopped off at 'Pod' for a coffee and then went to the exhibition - wow! It was truly stunning! The pieces were so well preserved - I was astonished! The best part was that they gave you a little history of the area and of jewellers and stuff before you go and see the jewels so you have that in the back of your little pea brain and then inside, there are loads of portraits of people wearing jewellery almost identical to the ones in the exhibition so you could reference that and imagine how the pieces would have looked on. They also had periodical clothes to reference and some interactive video thingys.

My favourite pieces from the exhibition were this emerald salamander (only about 1cm long) and the intricate emerald watch (also tiny):
The jewels in the hoard must be worth hundreds of millions - there are so many of expensive jewels like diamond and pearl, emerald, amethyst, sapphire, amber, garnet etc.

I'll give you a little bit of history another time - but for now, I'll just say that if you can and are living in or near London go and see the exhibition. It costs $8 a person but is well worth it!

After seeing the exhibition, we went to the cafe and had lunch. We then spend about an hour looking round all the other parts of the museum which is a chronological walk through different periods of London's history including the Romans, Tudors, Medieval, Victorian, World Wars, 1960s/70s and up until the Olympics. It includes specialist information on the Great Fire of London (1666) and black death... It's really targeted at children around aged 8+ and is great for studying just a particular period in history - it is very interactive and in some parts you feel like you actually in that period (dressing up, statues, walkways of periodical shops etc).

We then had a cup of tea and caught the 172 bus back to the station and went home! So a great day out!

Food: What did I have for breakfast..oh yes! Toast but if you remember I couldn't be bothered to eat it or even get it on a plate so I spread crumbs everywhere and then had to hoover.... :( then I had a hot chocolate and sausage roll for coffee and a ham sandwich with water for lunch (sooo boring!). For dinner I cooked (have to look after my mummy)- yes I've warned you about me cooking meals, cakes and milkshakes and stuff is great, but meals really aren't - steak and chips with peas and sweetcorn! So that was about it....

Weather: getting cooler but deceptively sunny

Today - 15th April 2014

So today I haven't really done a lot which is good because it's the holidays and that's what holidays are meant for :)

I did some more of my maths project and even went into town for the sole purpose of buying tracing paper for the project - I am such a dedicated pupil - lol! I also did some music practice and waitied on my mother which is now getting very tiresome :(

Yeah that was about it...

I just watched Rev. though - that was probably the highlight of my day (will tell you more about that program another time!)

Food today: Breakfast - english muffin with nutella (told you that would feature again!) and a glass of milk. Lunch - Shepherd's pie Dinner - leftover sausage casserole...so overall not very exciting!

Weather: cloudy but not to cold :)

Public pressure on image - serious topic of the week

Well I'm just going to write today about image. Image is a big topic of debate at the moment - does the media affect how we feel about our image? Ooh that sounds serious right? Ok serious face on. Carry on. My answer to that big question is unquestionably YES. I'm going to tell the argument from where I stand:

So as a teenager you walk down the street. On the advertisement boards and posters etc. you see adverts for well I dunno, swimwear or something. You immediately look at it and think 'Gosh! how I'd like to look like her etc." Then you start comparing yourself to her - aren't my arms fat, aren't I just so fat in general and it goes on... Then your mind starts thinking well I could go on a diet or not eat any carbohydrate etc.....

This  also happens when you watch TV and you're like oh wow they look so lovely - but I wouldn't look like that because I'm fat.

Every morning when I wake up I'm totally like - I'm fat. I breathe in and try to hide that, pinch myself to try and establish how much fat there actually is.

I now won't go out in public wearing t-shirts or anything that shows my bare arms because I feel like people will look at me and go - she's fat. Now I'm not that plump round the middle - well maybe a little bit but its my arms that I get most self - conscious about. I hate mufti days at school and am dreading the summer when we have to wear short sleeved shirts - I'll probably just wear my jumper and boil to death.....

Literally  every time I eat something I have it before me on the plate and I'm like - how much carbohydrate has this got in, how much fat will I put on by eating this...usually I'll eat it anyway but sometimes I'll leave half the bowl and just pass it off as I'm not feeling too great!

You get self-conscious too about how your hair is, how you smell and generally how you look. So I've taken to wearing perfume and make-up to school and redoing my hair about 5 times every morning just to feel confident that I'm OK and to fit in with all the others.

Now there's a part of me that's like to I have to fit in, and then I go well at my last school I was bullied for not fitting in and teased and ended up depressed :( (talk about that another time). So then I go well it is so important to fit in because I don't want to end up like that again.

And what's scary is that all of this has happened to me in the past year and a half...I think the media influence has gone too far and is now not doing any good. I want to try and spread the word and these videos so that the media will do something about it!

Here is a video to prove the point - only very short:
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lUF2zbgBXwE

And this one should make you laugh but I'm not sure whether it's real or not:http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=

PLEASE COMMENT BLEOW IF YOU AGREE WITH ME ON THIS!

or alternatively if you don't agree-please comment and explain why you think the media influence like this is justified :)
