Palm Sunday

So one of the things you should probably know about me is that I am a Christian and I go to church pretty much every Sunday. Now please don't get me wrong in thinking that what I'm saying is that only Christians should read this - that's not what I intended at all! I'm open minded about people and their faiths - as far as I'm concerned, everybody should be free to express their own beliefs without being judged by others or condemned.

But anyway what I originally intended to write about - I do this sometimes, get sidetracked on a topic and then just constantly waffle on and forget about what I meant to talk about...what did I call this post? Oh yes! Palm Sunday...

Palm Sunday is the day where Christians celebrate the arrival of Christ into Jerusalem. Christ rode into Jerusalem on a Donkey and the way before him was covered in palm tree brancher. "They brought the donkey and the colt and they put their cloaks on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting. "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!" When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, "Who is this?" The crowds were saying "This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee."" (Mark, 21, 6-11)

Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter Sunday when Jesus is resurrected. It marks the beginning of Holy Week - the most solemn and thoughtful week in the Christian calendar. Maudy Thursday (this Thursday) marks the celebration of the Passover and the Last Supper that Jesus had with his disciples.  Jesus also washed his disciples feet, showing his humility. Good Friday (surprisingly (!) this Friday) is when Jesus actually died and is a time of mourning and grief but also contemplation and reflection.

In our Church we celebrated Palm Sunday by primarily blessing our Palm crosses (I'll try to post a picture of one later) and then processing round singing hymns and holding up our crosses before proceeding with the average Eucharist! I reckon I could recite All Glory Laud and Honour by now! It's the most repetitive hymn and there are about 7 verses all with choruses...

However, we did also sing my favourite hymn - My song is love unknown - if you haven't heard it/ don't  know it please take the time to listen to it - it's beautiful! I also love 'Mass for the people of Guildford' by Will Todd that the choir sang and the Passion....so all in all a pretty good service!!

So that's basically Palm Sunday...I'll try to upload a picture of a Palm cross...

Food update (sorry you'll learn that food is like, well, to put it mildly, MY LIFE): Ok so for breakfast it was wholemeal seeded bread (amazing!) with Nutella (ok Nutella will feature quite a lot too...) topped off with a glass of pure white milk straight from a cow's udder (actually that's not a very appealing thought is it!). Lunch was sausage casserole with toasted ciabatta (I know it sounds quite posh but it was very tasty!). And Dinner was a ham and lettuce sandwich...BORING huh! Oh and I might have had a sneaky hot chocolate sommewhere along the line...

Weather: (ok so this matters because here, most of the time, it's raining so..) I'm so excited, Ii just can't hide it! I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!!! (ok so you know you just sang that!). It was actually SUNNY today...I sunbathed in the afternoon

Ok so I have to go now to watch Endeavour....handsome lead role so don't stop me! See you guys tomorrow!
